Porsche built just 45 examples of its 993-based 3.8 RSR across 1997 and 1998. Factory data erroneously records some cars as having been fitted with the less powerful 3.8-litre flat-six from the spec-series Carrera Cup. However, the 911 offered here was configured with the critical ‘20631’ package denoting that it is a true RSR, complete with distinctive GT2-style bolt-on arches and delivering circa 350 horsepower via a six-speed manual gearbox.
Specified in classic Guards Red, this car holds a 10 December 1997 date of production before being delivered in March 1998. Significantly, the accompanying Wagenpass lists none other than Zakspeed—best known for its 1985 to 1989 foray into Formula 1 and monstrous Group 5 Ford Capri silhouette racer—as the first owner. A copy of the original sales invoice notes the purchase price as 284,625 Deutsche Mark.
Zakspeed entered the Porsche into numerous national-level race meetings across three seasons before, in January 2001, it was sold to club racer Eberhard Faecke. He competed aboard the 911 until the end of the following year. The Porsche then joined The Stuttgart Legends Collection in 2014.
Owing to its extensive use on track, the car has since been fitted with a replacement M64/75 RSR engine. Presented in its factory-correct shade of Guards Red and wearing a set of gold centre-locking BBS wheels, the 911 also features a Recaro bucket seat and Sabelt harness.
Please note that, following a period of static display, this car will require mechanical recommissioning prior to use. Thereafter, this RSR-specification 993 could be eligible for a variety of ever-popular historic race series.
