THE FIRST ROAD-LEGAL XX CAR

Enzo Ferrari founded his eponymous racing team in 1929, nearly two decades before building the first car to bear his name. Then, when the time came in 2019 to celebrate 90 years of Scuderia Ferrari, the Maranello marque fittingly christened both its new hybrid hypercar and Formula 1 racer “SF90”—stressing, once again, the importance of motorsport to the entire Ferrari story.

Through the launch of the XX Programme, beginning with the FXX in 2005, Ferrari has further deepened the connection between its competition efforts and its road cars with a series of radical, limited-edition machines based on the Enzo, 599, and LaFerrari. Offered by invitation to select clients, these cars are treated as advanced development testbeds. In many cases they are more extreme than a corresponding race car could be, as they don’t have to comply with a rulebook. Consequently, no XX Programme offering had been road legal. They are typically only able to be enjoyed at Ferrari events conducted at tracks worldwide.

That changed with the introduction of the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider in 2023. The two models gained the hallmarks of their XX Programme predecessors but, for the first time, may be used legally on public roads.

While keeping the same basic setup as the SF90—an all-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain consists of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 engine and three electric motors—the performance envelope of the SF90 XX has been pushed substantially. An additional 30 horsepower takes total output to 1,016 horsepower to achieve a 2.3-second launch from 0 to 100 km/h and a stated 320 km/h top speed. There is also an “Extra Boost” feature accessible in the eManettino’s Qualifying drive mode, which provides a dose of additional power for about 2 seconds. Ferrari claims this feature alone saves 0.25 seconds on flying a lap around Fiorano.

The SF90 XX is instantly recognisable by its prominent, fixed rear wing. It works in tandem with the road car’s active spoiler, which has been redesigned to feature low-drag and high-downforce settings. The model further gains distinctive, sculpted bodywork, as two large vents on the front bodywork direct air that passes through the radiators up and over the car. Similar aerodynamic enhancements help generate up to 530 kilograms of downforce at 250 km/h—approximately double that of the standard SF90 Spider. Despite retaining a power-folding roof and adjustable carbon fibre bucket seats, the SF90 XX Spider still manages to shed weight compared to its more compliant stablemate.

The XX also gains advancements that have been developed for other Ferrari models introduced since the SF90’s initial launch. This includes modifications to the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, taken from the Daytona SP3, as well as a chassis control system pulled from the 296 GTB. The result is a distinctive reinterpretation of the SF90 that is wholly up-to-date and breath-taking in its performance.

In total, just 799 examples of the SF90 XX Stradale will be produced. The SF90 XX Spider is even rarer at only 599 units. Since all allocations for both variants have been spoken for by dedicated Ferrari clientele, opportunities to acquire an SF90 XX Spider are exceedingly rare, making the car presented here even more special.

PEAK PERFORMANCE MEETS EXQUISITE PERSONALISATION

Among the first SF90 XX Spiders offered for public auction, this example is not only the ultimate performance incarnation of the SF90 but a stunning representation of what results when excellent taste meets Ferrari’s extensive Personalisation Programme.

A European-delivery car, this SF90 XX Spider wears an exterior finished in an Extra Range Verde Masoni with airbrushed Scuderia Shields and Dark Amber Dreamlines and accents. The front splitter, diffuser, side air splitters, engine cover, and even the wheel caps are rendered in carbon fibre. Protecting it all, anti-stone chipping film was applied at the factory. Gold brake callipers then sit behind diamond-polished forged wheels.

The interior is trimmed in Extra Range Nero Alcantara with subtle Cuoio stitching and embroidered Cavallino emblems on the headrests. The inner sills, wheelhouse, plus the steering wheel and grips are also wrapped in Nero Alcantara. The use of carbon fibre continues inside the cabin with the centre console. A premium hi-fi system and smartphone interface enhance the user experience, while front and rear parking cameras and sensors and the useful front-axle lift system are sure to be appreciated when driving this Ferrari on the street.

The result is an undeniably spectacular SF90 XX Spider. Accordingly, it should come as no surprise that this wonderfully specified Ferrari was recognised as the Best Hypercar at the 2025 Aggersvold Concours held in Denmark in August. Displaying a mere 267 kilometres at time of cataloguing, this SF90 XX Spider remains in essentially “as-new” condition and is accompanied by delivery materials including owner’s manuals.

With just 599 to be produced, all of which have been spoken for, every SF90 XX Spider is a potential prize for the dedicated Ferrari collector. Thoughtfully specified and seldom driven, this example stands out even among its limited-production peers, offering its fortunate next caretaker the rare opportunity to experience the thrilling performance of one of Ferrari’s first road-legal XX Programme automobiles.
