Following the acquisition of Rolls-Royce Motors Cars by BMW and the Volkswagen Group taking over Bentley, Daimler relaunched Maybach as a standalone marque at the start of the 21st Century to gain a foothold in the ultra-luxury segment of the automotive market. The resulting S-Class-based limousines, the 57 and 62, were fit for business tycoons and heads of state. However, even those models could be considered a touch commonplace against the incredibly exclusive Landaulet that was to come.

Reviving a body style whereby rear passengers wafted along in a separate compartment from front occupants, and with a partial convertible soft-top roof, the Maybach 62 S Landaulet was shown in concept form at the Middle East International Auto Show in Dubai in late 2007. An extremely limited production run was commissioned in the months that followed, with just 22 examples believed to have been made over the next six years.

The example offered here was specified for its French first owner with Antigua White paintwork over a cabin upholstered in Black and Anthracite Exclusive Leather and featuring carbon and piano lacquer trim. Delivered in June 2009, the Maybach boasted conveniences such as rear-axle steering, a rear-view camera, and adaptive cruise control to ensure the chauffeur delivered as smooth a drive as possible, with the twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V-12 powerplant barely exercising its 604 horsepower. Meanwhile, those in the rear compartment could retract the fabric roof, retrieve a bottle of fizz from the refrigerator, and toast their success with the champagne flutes provided.

Riding on a set of 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels, this Landaulet is offered from ownership in the United Arab Emirates and displayed 22,845 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing.

More than four times rarer than the 99 units of the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet built, this 62 S would make for a statement addition to any collection.
